Fri Nov 8 1996 Subject: SiE-WG workshop To: Simulation in Europe Working Group Action Leaders Dear SiE-WG Action Leader, We are planning a 2 day workshop on (ideally) Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November. During November 25-28, there will be the 1996 European IT conference (which some of you are probably attending). As your presence as Action Leaders is critical for the success of this workshop, we would like to know if you are able to attend during the dates mentioned. Two locations have been proposed: - Brussels: convenient connection with EITC '96, low flight prices - Lyngby, Denmark: the Danish Maritime Institute has graciously offered to host the workshop in their institute. Could you inform us as soon as possible of your preferences for dates and location ? (If it is completely impossible for you to attend on these dates we will try to move, but the problem is heavily over-constrained) The two days will be spent as follows: day 1: Meetings, in parallel, of the different Actions. Some scheduling will have to be done to make it possible to attend related meetings (usually within one Action Cluster). These are working meetings whereby each action may invite participation. In addition to the funding granted to each of the Action Clusters (with which you may invite external experts), separate funding is available for the Action Leaders and the other Working Group members (to attend this workshop). These meetings should bring each of the Actions to a suitable initial state for day 2. day 2: A short presentation, by each of the Actions, of the current state of work. A discussion about the structure and content of the White Papers and the overall White Book. Concrete homework and schedule. Scientifically, a Network of Excellence in Simulation Technologies is viable (this is the EU feedback). We need to discuss the management aspects of a NoE. For example: how to become self-sufficient after 3 years ? Establishing a concrete plan for submitting a Network of Excellence proposal. Looking forward to a stimulating workshop, Ghislain Vansteenkiste Eugene Kerckhoffs Hans Vangheluwe P.S.: although it is still minimal, you may want to have a look at the SiE homepage http://hobbes.rug.ac.be/SiE/ You are encouraged to produce a homepage for your action (if you haven't done so yet) !
