I am a PhD student under supervision of Prof. Hans Vangheluwe and Dr. Peter Hellinckx.

My current research topic is using Model-driven Engineering techniques in Building Automation Applications. First we want to model the application using statecharts and DEVS. Then we can test these models trough simulation and verification. From these models we are going to generate code for PLCs in Structured Text. Next we want to simplify the development of the applications. We can do this by developing a language on a higher abstraction level than statecharts and DEVS. As a last step we are also going to see to optimise the whole application to different criterias: costs (bill of materials), power consumption and comfort.

As a final step we want to see if we can use embedded devices in these application so we can lower the costs by using cheaper devices instead of PLCs.
