Why do associations have 3 anchor points by default, instead of just two?

The worse is that the anchor point in the middle does not move when one of the edges are moved. This is understandable as it is hard to implement.

However, with associations that are created by a model transformation, it becomes impossible to layout the generated model. It is just too much work to have to move all the middle anchor points around, instead of just moving the nodes.
