MPM4CPS Pisa Management Committee meeting, Workshop and Closing Conference 22 - 23 November 2018 at Pisa, Italy 01 Travel Information 02 Agenda 03 Keynote by Prof. Dr. Holger Giese Title: The Challenge of Model-Based Integration for Cyber-Physical Systems Abstract: The integration of different development activities and artifacts into a single coherent system is a major challenge for the development of embedded real-time systems. For complex software the functional integration alone is a major undertaking, in the case of embedded real-time systems we in addition have to cope with all the affected system characteristics such as real-time behavior, resource consumption, and behavior in the case of failures. The challenges become even more demanding when we consider (networked) cyber-physical systems that are often characterized by the need for operational and managerial independence of subsystems, dynamic architecture and openness, advanced adaptation, resilience, cross-domain integration, multi-formalism, and the demand to integrate different models of computation. In this talk we will discuss the state-of-the-art of model-based integration. Therefore, we will outline the need for integration in embedded system development and the specific needs in case of cyber-physical systems. We will introduce the fundamental techniques employed to cope with the integration challenges and explain the current standard practice concerning integration of hardware and software for functional development as well as function integration and also discuss advanced solutions such as AUTOSAR. Finally, we will outline what are the remaining challenges and what we think are the most promising directions to approach them. |
