-
-Executing a Model Transformation
-================================
-
-The *TransformationController* toolbar is used to execute a model transformation.
-
-.. image:: img/transformation_controller.png
-
-The first button allows you to load a model transformation (schedule). The file browser will only allow you to load models that start with the *T_* prefix.
-
-Look in the console to see whether the transformation was correctly loaded:
-
-.. image:: img/transformation_loaded.png
-
-From that point, you can use the four control buttons to start, step throug, pause and stop a transformation. The console will log which rules were tried and whether they succeeded or failed.
-
-.. warning:: If you want to restart a transformation, please *reload* the current AToMPM instance or start a new one.
-
-AToMPM supports the debugging of model transformation schedules. To enable debugging, press the last button of the *TransformationController* toolbar. When debugging is enabled, and you press play, a window will pop up containing the model of the schedule.

-Overview
-========
-This section presents an overview of AToMPM's user interface: how to create an account, and the different parts of the user interface (toolbars, canvas, and console).
-
-First Usage
------------
-When first opening the user interface at `localhost:8124/atompm`, the user is presented with a login screen.
-
-.. image:: img/first_login_screen.png
-    :scale: 50
-
-Click the *create one now* link, which will allow you to create a new account with a user name and password. Fill out the form and click *Create new account*.
-
-.. image:: img/create_new_account.png
-    :scale: 50
-
-AToMPM will initialize the account (by creating a user folder under the `users/` folder) and switch to the main user interface view. When you revisit the AToMPM webpage or create a new AToMPM instance, the tool will remember your username and password and automatically log you in. You can log out by clicking the *logout* link at the top right of the user interface.
-
-The AToMPM User Interface
--------------------------
-
-When logged in, the AToMPM user interface is initialized with four button toolbars: *MainMenu*, *CompileMenu*, *TransformationController*, and *TransformationEditor*. They allow a langugage developer and a language user to perform most activities and are heavily used in the next sections of the documentation.
-
-.. image:: img/user_interface.png
-    :scale: 50
-
-The user interface of AToMPM consists of three areas: the *toolbar area*, contained in the *canvas area*, and the *console*. To bring up the console, in Google Chrome press the F12 key. These areas are explained in more details in the next sections.
-
-Toolbars
-^^^^^^^^
-There are two types of toolbars that can be loaded: button toolbars consist of a number of buttons that each perform a certain action, while formalism toolbars allow to instantiate language elements. A new toolbar can be loaded using the **(re)load a toolbar** button of the *MainMenu* toolbar. Toolbar models that can be loaded either have the *.buttons.model* extension (for button toolbars) or the *.metamodel* extension (for formalism toolbars).
-
-Button Toolbars
-"""""""""""""""
-All button toolbar models can be found under the */Toolbars/* user folder. A button toolbar consists of a number of buttons that, when clicked, execute a particular action. Four button toolbar are loaded by default, explained below.
-
-.. image:: img/main_toolbar.png
-
-#. Launch a new AToMPM user interface in a new tab.
-#. (Re-)open a button or formalism toolbar.
-#. Close an opened toolbar. If this is a formalism toolbar, the model elements conforming to that formalism are removed from the model.
-#. Create a new formalism under the */Formalisms/* user folder with the given name.
-#. Open a model.
-#. Insert the elements of a model into the currently opened model.
-#. Save current model.
-#. Save current model as...
-#. Undo the last performed action.
-#. Redo the last undone action.
-#. Copy the selected elements on canvas.
-#. Paste the copied elements on the canvas (copy/paste also works across AToMPM tabs).
-#. Verify whether the constraints of the current model are satisfied.
-#. Show or hide entities of a particular formalism (but do not remove them from the model).
-#. Open the manual.
-
-Most of these actions are intuitive. Others are explained in more detail in the next sections.
-
-.. image:: img/compilation_toolbar.png
-
-#. Compile the current model (conforming to the *ConcreteSyntax* formalism) to a formalism toolbar.
-#. Compile the current model (conforming to the *SimpleClassDiagram* formalism) to a metamodel.
-#. Compile a metamodel to a pattern metamodel (and associated formalism toolbar(s)), used in model transformation rules.
-
-More information on these buttons can be found in :ref:`creating-a-modelling-language` and :ref:`modelling-a-model-transformation`.
-
-.. image:: img/transformation_controller.png
-
-#. Load a transformation.
-#. Run the currently loaded transformation until the end.
-#. Execute one step of the currently loaded transformation.
-#. Pause the running transformation.
-#. Stop the running transformation.
-#. Enable debugging, which opens a debug window when the transformation is executed that shows the transformation schedule and highlights the currently executing step.
-
-More information on these buttons can be found in :ref:`executing-a-model-transformation`.
-
-.. image:: img/transformation_editor.png
-
-#. Open a rule model.
-#. Open a transformation model.
-#. Open a formalism toolbar of a pattern metamodel.
-#. Create a new transformation model, and open it in a new tab.
-#. Create a new rule model, and open it in a new tab.
-
-More information on these buttons can be found in :ref:`modelling-a-model-transformation`.
-
-.. _formalism-toolbars:
-
-Formalism Toolbars
-""""""""""""""""""
-Loading a formalism toolbar allows you to create elements on the canvas conforming to that formalism. Multiple formalism toolbars can be loaded, which allows a model to contain elements conforming to multiple formalisms.
-
-As an example, we show the formalism toolbar of the *TrafficLight* language, which is used throughout the readme as an example.
-
-.. image:: img/trafficlight_toolbar.png
-
-Each button of a formalism toolbar corresponds to an icon in the concrete syntax definition of the formalism. Links are not shown. Clicking a button will select that particular type to be instantiated. Right-clicking on the canvas instantiates the icon on the canvas. More information on how to use a formalism toolbar to model can be found in :ref:`using-a-modelling-language`.

-It sometimes happens you are stuck in edge editing mode and cannot get out. This is frustrating because you cannot save your model. There is, however, the possibility to call client functions from the console directly. Simply type *_saveModel()* in the console and you save the current state of the model.
-
-If for some reason this did not work, restart AToMPM. **Do not load your model**. Instead, load the *.autosave.<model-name>.model* file, which is AToMPM's way of backing up your work. It will contain a recent version of your model, but not necessarily the latest.

-A Workflow is MDE-based solution where the user defines a “workflow” that can be parametrized at run-time and executed. This Workflow is a DSL for defining activities that can be performed in MDE tools. In the next subsections, we explain how to create and use these elements.
-
-An activity is composed of tasks, to define concrete actions to be performed. we want to automate user’s activities as much as possible, therefore most of the tasks are automatic: they do not require human interaction. For example, loading a formalism to create a metamodel is a task that can be automated, since the location of that formalism is known.

-
-Setting the run-time parameters
----------------------------
-
-A prerequisite to execute a workflow is to set the run-time parameters. To do this, the user pushes the *LoadParameters* button, the first button on the *Workflow* toolbar . This creates an instance of the parameter object and pops up a dialog prompting for all required parameters. Write these parameters and push the ok button.
-
-.. image:: img/parameters.png
-
-.. note:: Each parameter must be typed without extension. For example, the class diagram toolbar location is: "/Formalisms/__LanguageSyntax__/SimpleClassDiagram/SimpleClassDiagram.umlIcons.metamodel", then we should type: "/Formalisms/__LanguageSyntax__/SimpleClassDiagram/SimpleClassDiagram.uml", where Icons.metamodel was predefined by the designer of this template.
-
-Execute the workflow
----------------------
-
-Click on the *Resume Process* button, the second button on the *Workflow* toolbar. This executes the worklow autonomously. When a manual task is reached, a new AToMPM window is opened with all necessary toolbars pre-loaded.
-A message describing the manual task to perform is displayed to the user and the simulation stops.
-After the user has completed the task, the user pushes the third button (*CompleteTask* button) . Then, the window closes and the simulation restarts.
-
-Dependency
--------------
-
-Workflow parameters are specified once per workflow; however, run-time parameters must be manually specified each time the workflow is executed. Therefore, a *Dependency* link can be specified between different tasks that share the same run-time parameters.
-
-
-A dependency link specifies which attribute from the target task gets its value from an attribute in the source task. For example, the location of the *SaveModel task is the same as the location of the \texttt{OpenModel}when saving a model we just opened and modified.
-
-
-Example Workflow for Creating a DSL
------------------------------------
-
-.. image:: img/create_dsl.png
-
-The image shows the workflow that specifies how to create a DSL and generate a modeling environment for it in AToMPM.
-The first task is *LoadToolbar*.
-Its location parameter is already predefined with the class diagram toolbar, since this is the standard formalism with which one creates a metamodel in AToMPM.
-The following task is *EditModel*.
-In this manual task, the user creates the metamodel of the DSL using class diagrams.
-
-.. image:: img/create_as.png
-
-Once this is complete, the workflow restarts executing from that task and proceeds with *SaveModel*.
-This task requires a run-time parameter to specify the location of where the metamodel is saved.
-The user sets the value in the popup dialog wizard.
-
-.. image:: img/create_dsl_parameters.png
-
-Now that the metamodel is created, a fork node proposes two flows: one for creating the concrete syntax of the DSL and one to generate the abstract syntax from the metamodel.
-Recall that the simulation chooses one flow and then the other in no specific order.
-Suppose the former flow is chosen.
-Then, a *LoadToolbar* task is executed to load the concrete syntax toolbar, the standard formalism in AToMPM.
-This is followed by an *EditModel* so the user can manually create the shapes of each element of the metamodel.
-Once this is complete, the workflow restarts and proceeds with a *SaveModel* task.
-Recall that the location is a run-time parameter to save the concerte syntax model with a predefined extension.
-The following task in this flow is *GenerateCS*.
-
-.. image:: img/create_cs.png
-
-It takes as run-time parameter the location of where the generated artifact must be output.
-Specifically, the name used will be also the name of the toolbar that will be used to create a model with this DSL.
-Therefore, the location of the generated concrete syntax is the same as the location of the concrete syntax model the user created manually.
-The dependency link prevents the user from having to duplicate parameter values in the pop-up wizard.
-When the join node is reached, the simulation notices that the second flow was not executed yet.
-Therefore the next task to be executed is *GenerateAS*.
-Its location parameter uses the same value of the location attribute of *SaveModel*, as depicted by the dependency link between these two tasks.
-When the join node is reached again, this time all flows were executed and proceeds with the final task *LoadToolbar*.
-
-.. image:: img/create_model.png
-
-As stated before, its location parameter use the same value of the location attribute of previous *SaveModel* domain-specific model.
-The simulation ends on a new window open with the new DSL loaded, ready for the user to create his domain-specific model.

There is, however, the possibility to call client functions from the console directly. Simply type <em>_saveModel()</em> in the console and you save the current state of the model.</p>

Instead, load the <em>.autosave.&lt;model-name&gt;.model</em> file, which is AToMPM&#8217;s way of backing up your work. It will contain a recent version of your model, but not necessarily the latest.</p>

-<p>An activity is composed of tasks, to define concrete actions to be performed. we want to automate user’s activities as much as possible, therefore most of the tasks are automatic: they do not require human interaction. For example, loading a formalism to create a metamodel is a task that can be automated, since the location of that formalism is known.</p>

-<p>Workflow parameters are specified once per workflow; however, run-time parameters must be manually specified each time the workflow is executed. Therefore, a <em>Dependency</em> link can be specified between different tasks that share the same run-time parameters.</p>
-<p>A dependency link specifies which attribute from the target task gets its value from an attribute in the source task. For example, the location of the <a href="#id2"><span class="problematic" id="id3">*</span></a>SaveModel task is the same as the location of the texttt{OpenModel}when saving a model we just opened and modified.</p>

-<h2>Example Workflow for Creating a DSL<a class="headerlink" href="#example-workflow-for-creating-a-dsl" title="Permalink to this headline">¶</a></h2>
-<img alt="_images/create_dsl.png" src="_images/create_dsl.png" />
-<p>The image shows the workflow that specifies how to create a DSL and generate a modeling environment for it in AToMPM.
-The first task is <em>LoadToolbar</em>.
-Its location parameter is already predefined with the class diagram toolbar, since this is the standard formalism with which one creates a metamodel in AToMPM.
-The following task is <em>EditModel</em>.
-In this manual task, the user creates the metamodel of the DSL using class diagrams.</p>
-<img alt="_images/create_as.png" src="_images/create_as.png" />
-<p>Once this is complete, the workflow restarts executing from that task and proceeds with <em>SaveModel</em>.
-This task requires a run-time parameter to specify the location of where the metamodel is saved.
-The user sets the value in the popup dialog wizard.</p>
-<img alt="_images/create_dsl_parameters.png" src="_images/create_dsl_parameters.png" />
-<p>Now that the metamodel is created, a fork node proposes two flows: one for creating the concrete syntax of the DSL and one to generate the abstract syntax from the metamodel.
-Recall that the simulation chooses one flow and then the other in no specific order.
-Suppose the former flow is chosen.
-Then, a <em>LoadToolbar</em> task is executed to load the concrete syntax toolbar, the standard formalism in AToMPM.
-This is followed by an <em>EditModel</em> so the user can manually create the shapes of each element of the metamodel.
-Once this is complete, the workflow restarts and proceeds with a <em>SaveModel</em> task.
-Recall that the location is a run-time parameter to save the concerte syntax model with a predefined extension.
-The following task in this flow is <em>GenerateCS</em>.</p>
-<img alt="_images/create_cs.png" src="_images/create_cs.png" />
-<p>It takes as run-time parameter the location of where the generated artifact must be output.
-Therefore the next task to be executed is <em>GenerateAS</em>.
-Its location parameter uses the same value of the location attribute of <em>SaveModel</em>, as depicted by the dependency link between these two tasks.
-When the join node is reached again, this time all flows were executed and proceeds with the final task <em>LoadToolbar</em>.</p>
-<img alt="_images/create_model.png" src="_images/create_model.png" />
-<p>As stated before, its location parameter use the same value of the location attribute of previous <em>SaveModel</em> domain-specific model.
-The simulation ends on a new window open with the new DSL loaded, ready for the user to create his domain-specific model.</p>
