Athletics and Games Summary of Sagar

Welcome to my athletics and games page. We all know how important good physical condition is for
survival in this world full of pathogens. Most of my sports and games endeavours in the past have been
unstructured and due to random inspiration from sports television and other peer athletes.
I love soccer, table tennis, and swimming (I have ceased to swim since the McGill pool has
10% H20 and 90% Cl and this makes me blind for the rest of the night)
More recently I have been doing some water sports. Read on...

Very brief past summary

Soccer: I was left forward for the JNCASR (www.jncasr.ac.in) soccer team in Bangalore, India. We had matches against NCBS
(www.ncbs.res.in) . We lost to them initially on their ground. Before I left JNCASR we won all the final matches on the same lush green ground. I also played intramural soccer with CE Imperial for the McGill team. We lost in the quarter finals. We were 7 against 11 (plus 1 sub).

Swimming: Did this in high school. Represented Bangalore at the south zone level for Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan zonal meet.
Also, won the 2.5 km race in Indian Institute of Science with a margin of 3 mins between 1st and 2nd place.

Table Tennis: I was on the Dr. A.I.T. table tennis team for a while. We came second the National Law School table tennis tournament.

Dragon Boat Racing (Summer 2005)

All this changed since I started started dragon boat racing in the beautiful summer of Montreal. Competitive water sports
(CWS), thats the key baby! Here is a picture from Quebec Cup which is the season's most competitive competition.
Reason -- its end of season. See if you can find me. I am rather conspicuous.

Close Action in Dragon Boat Racing

The name of our team is Les Pirates. Here a the summary of our results.

1) Montreal International Dragon Boat Festival
We raced as a Premier league G division team. This was good considering the fact that most of the team members were new to the sport and this was their first racing experience ever (including me). Although we did not win the final, but we saw some great improvements towards our personal goals. A lot of credit goes to our awesome coach Jode Lax.

2) Sherbrooke
What do you know? We came back with a bang to win the Pro league C division event by one full boat. We were in great form that day and had dinner at eastside Marios to celebrate our win.

3) Quebec Cup
Quebec cup was our final competition. We registered in the sports division. This was the most challenging contest since we had an assortment of races requiring a balance of strength and endurance skills. Starting from high power 250m to never ending 2 km races.
We fought hard with the best teams on water despite the fact that some of the regular athletes couldn't race with us due to personal commitments. Here is picture from one of the 2 Km races.

Outdoor Rowing (Starting Fall 2005)

Hmm..I know that I love the water. Rowing ah ha.. with the McGill University Rowing Club. I had to start as a novice since I hadn't rowed (or rown?!) before. This was simply one of the best experiences I had under the fabulous guidance of my coaches: Andrew, Brice, and Corina. We practiced on all weekdays at 6 am in the morning at the Olympic basin. For this we had to catch the very first metro of the day at 5:45 am. I climbed the metro at Peel. Most of the crew is on the morning metro and we meet at Berri-Uqam metro station.
Then its a 30 sec sprint to the Yellow line for another metro. From this second metro we go to Parc Jean Drapeau where the olympic basin is situated. We did this for 2 months. Weekends we travelled in the eastern region of Canada for races!!
Here is a picture of our novice team of 2005 from the McGill Invitational Regatta:

Summary of  our Fall Season Competitions

1) Head of the Trent 2005: A great learning experience---> dont back up during races. If port side is much stronger than starboard side things could go horribly wrong.
2) McGill Invitational Regatta: Surprise time: We came second in the finals. However, we beat all the Canadian teams only to lose to Queen's university.
3) Brock Invitational Regatta: Race cancelled due to good weather ( I dont know why they cancelled it). A nice team bonding day.
4) OUA Championships: 1st in the heats. 4th in the finals. 3 secs behind Queens who came second and 1 sec behind trent who came third. The following OUA halloween party was memorable.
